THE ADVANTAGES OF PSYCHOLOGY IN MATHEMATICS TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS

What is in the student’s mind if they hear “mathematics?” Are they like studying mathematics? Or they dislike studying mathematics? Their feeling to mathematics can looked from their activity in learning mathematics. If they are dilligent to study mathematics, like doing exercises, ask when they have difficulties, have spirit when study mathematics, then they like studying mathematics. On the other hand, if the student don’t have spirit to study mathematics, lazy to do exercises, etc, then they have difficulty to study mathematics.
The teacher have to know what happen in his/ her student. He/ she needs to give motivation to the students. The teacher have to help the students who have the difficulty. The teacher needs to communicate and keep interaction with the student in order the teacher can help the students. To know the problem faced the student, the teacher need to study pscychology. The teacher can analize the problem faced student by the student attitude. For the example, there is student who sleepy when mathematics teaching learning. The teacher don’t give punishment directly to student. The teacher can ask why the student sleepy. May be the student had to help the parents until night, or the other reason. The other example, the student are lazy to study mathematics. The teacher have to know why they are lazy. Because the method that used boring, the teacher give many tasks, the problem in their family, etc. The teacher needs to discuss and keep interaction among them in order they can share and find the solution.
The psychology gives many advantages to the teacher. The teacher can know the condition of the student. The student can share what the problem faced them. The teacher can help them. If the interaction among the teacher and the student kept well, then the mathematics teaching learning process will done well. The teacher will enjoy teaching mathematics and the student also enjoy study mathematics.

What I can reflect about psychological aspects, if the student is confronted with the following questions

The following questions is objective tests about linear equation system in two variable. Objective test is for evaluating the student ‘s ability of a concept. Objective test can’t describe the student’s ability accurately. The student may be do rightly due to luck factor. Beside that, the student sometimes don’t do steps to solve the problems.
There are several possibilities about the student’ reaction if the student is confronted with objective test. They are:
a. happy
The student will be happy because they can guess the answers without think a long. They don’t have to understand the concept because they depends the luck.
b. confuse
The student will be confuse if they can’t understand the concept. In problems no 9-11 are daily problems. The student have to formulate the problems to equations. To formulate, they have to understand the problems.
Beside that, there is a wrong in problem no 7.
The value of y from linear equation system in two variables 3x = 2y = 7 and 4x + y = 11 is
a.1; b.2; c.3; d.4
There are two possibilities,+ or -. If there is no correction, then the student have to try one by one until they can find out the answer that included the options.
c. have motivation
The student who have motivation and understand the concept will try to solve the problems. They will do steps by steps to answer it. The answer that found out included the options.
From the explanation above, every student have their view of point about the problems. When they are given the objective test,,there are reaction from the student. The student are ready to solve the problem because they had understand the concept. The other may be not ready to solve because they hadn’t understand the concept but they can guess the answer.

A SURVEY TO INCREASE STUDENT WITH SPESIAL NEEDS'S IN MATH TROUGH THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY

A SURVEY TO INCREASE STUDENT WITH SPESIAL NEEDS’S MOTIVATION IN MATH THROUGH THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY

Motivation is important in mathematics learning. The students will be active to study mathematics. But, some students have little motivation to study mathematics. The students with special needs often due to past frustration sometimes have a lack of motivation toward learning. They also may learn in different ways from their non dis-abled peers. The teacher need special methods in order students easy study mathematics. The teacher need to present lesson more interesting in order students interested to study. To present lesson more fun and interesting, the teacher can use technology. Technology is usefull specially for students with special needs.Technology can make the teacher present the concept easier and the students will interested to study. If the students are interested to study, then they will have motivation.

The use of technology to increase students motivation had researched.Marcy Savoi had research by using SMART board technology for student with special needs. The students in his study consisted of seven students in fifth grade. The research strategy to collect data over 3 periods: pre SMART board, introductory SMART board,a concluding SMART board periods. The students are given ten questions of their feeling about learning math facts and concepts. The result is the student’s motivation was increased in mathematics after introducting SMART board. The student noted math class was more interesting dan more understandable with the use of SMART board technology. The student who had previously not liked math class, noted that they now liked math class. The students also looked forward to math class after the introduction of SMART board. In conclusion, the SMART board technology help the student with special needs reach full potential in math.

From research above, technology is usefull to increase students wih special needs’s motivation. The technology make student interested to study. They can study mathematics easier. The concepts that difficult to leran become clearer. So the teacher need to use the right metods and technology for facilitate students with spesial needs.
